Judith Cutler has been designated a Master Pastelist by the
Pastel Society of America in New York City, a Master Circle Member of the
International Association of Pastel Societies, and a Member of Excellence by
the Southeastern Pastel Society in Atlanta.
Cutler earned a Graphic Arts degree
from Pennsylvania State University, and studied oil painting
with Elaine de Kooning and Hobson Pittman. She worked 20 plus years as a
designer for several companies, including IBM, Holiday Inn Corporation,
and Oakland University in Rochester, MI.
In recent years, Cutler has found new
passion when using pastels as a drawing tool and painting medium. She
also employs mixed media to create award-winning art using representational and
nonobjective approaches. The intricate details of her realistic paintings
contrast unexpectedly to the color, shape and texture of bold abstracts.
Her work has been shown at the prestigious Butler Institute
of American Art, the National Arts Club in New York City, Oglethorpe University
Museum of Art in Atlanta, and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.
She is a 2011 recipient of a Regional Artists Project Grant,
Arts & Science Council, Charlotte, NC. In 2005, Cutler was selected by
the McColl Center for Visual Art to participate in the 6th
Street Windows Project at the Hearst Building in Charlotte.
Cutler's many awards include the Pastel Society of America's
Annual Open Juried Exhibition (2008, 2007, 2006, 2004); The Pastel Journal:
Creative Spark winner (August 2010), Abstract Category_Annual Pastel 100:
First Place (2008), Third Place (2007), and numerous Honorable
Mentions. The Pastel Journal included her work in the August, 2007
article, The 21st Century Pastelist.
