Painting themes involving nature make my heart sing and speak to my soul, whether picturesque scenery, a quaint old cottage, or unique flowers. Recently I have enjoyed combining color, light, line and texture in floral compositions. The different views or angles I choose to present at times examine the heart of the flower, an area in which I find various patterns, textures, and colors, and therefore intrigue. Often the extreme close-ups verge on abstraction. Via this technique the realistic image can become something else. I want to show a personal interpretation of the truth or integrity of a floral design. The true essence or character of the flower is retained, yet I hope the viewer will see more than recognizing a flower.
