I have always been fascinated by color, texture and the
arrangement of materials into a pleasing form. I can’t remember a time when I
didn’t savor beauty and attempt to create it myself. For many years, my primary
mode of expression was through clothing construction and design. Five years ago
I was introduced to bead weaving and it immediately captured my interest. It
provided an intriguing opportunity to play with color, texture and composition.
My work is primarily free-form, which makes each piece unique. My jewelry is
designed to enhance one’s appearance, rather then overwhelm it. The light and
fluid nature of these pieces makes them comfortable and easy to wear.
My formal education was at Western Carolina University,
where I completed graduate degrees in Elementary Education, School Counseling
and School Administration. I retired from school administration in 2007 and
continue to work part-time for Buncombe County Schools. In addition to working
as an educator, I co-founded Just Ducky Originals, a children’s clothing
company. I have studied clothing and jewelry design with Marcy Tilton, Diane
Ericson, Sandra Betzina and Amolia Willowsong.
