Maureen Davis specializes in Raku pottery. She is drawn to the brilliant flashing glazes and to the spontaneity that results from the Raku process. Her pieces are wheel thrown and simple in form, allowing the glaze to make its statement. She often incorporates natural elements such as feathers or horsehair into her pots. Each pot is unique and a statement to the tradition of Raku created with a contemporary artist’s perspective.
Maureen has worked with clay since the early 1980s, initially renting a space at Lill Street Gallery in Chicago. She currently has a studio at home in Washington, NC. She displays her work at a variety of local art shows and galleries. Maureen has been honored with various awards, including the Irene Glover-Forbes Pottery award at the Fine Arts Show in Beaufort County. She was one of four features artists displaying work at the Beaufort County Art Council from January 26, 2011 through March 8, 2011. Maureen attended a one week class at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC in February of 2013 to help further her knowledge of alternative firing techniques.
Maureen is a full-time social worker and spends the weekends on her artwork.
