Holly Nettles is known for her vibrant impressionistic paintings inspired by nature and simple pleasures. Even as a young child, her mom remembers that she would marvel about the beauty of the colors in the sky and clouds or the colors in the land. She is a native of North Carolina and was raised around rural farmlands and coastal landscapes. In many ways, her love of art and nature started here.
She studied journalism and studio art at UNC-Chapel Hill. Her artistic study continued through workshops with prominent artists from across the country and by simply painting at every opportunity. After college, she moved to California and worked in advertising and marketing but eventually, her North Carolina roots brought her home.
She has a passion for using expressive color and abstracting landscapes and her work has both energetic and peaceful qualities. Using a palette knife and bold brushstrokes, she works on several paintings at a time, enjoying the creative process and the many turns it takes.
Holly has a pressing need to create and finds inspiration everywhere, especially in the Outer Banks, her home since the fall of 2009. Her award-winning work is in collections across the country.
