E. Jane Stoddard began her career as an oil painter; she feels this greatly enhances her work as a watercolorist. Her approach is highly personalized — she makes her own rules and follows her own instincts. As a result, she creates highly detailed paintings of architecture, marine subjects, and market scenes in purely transparent watercolor utilizing glazing and layering techniques.
A self-taught artist, Stoddard developed a distinct vision that has led her to become a prize-winning watercolorist. In 2006 she was the recipient of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society's Award of Excellence and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club's Medal of Honor in Watermedia, among other awards. She is also a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, the Marine American Society of Marine Artists and many other societies.
Jane recently received the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Society Award for EXCELLENCE IN WATERCOLOR.This is the oldest Womens' Art Organization in the USA. She became a member of the prestigious COLPLEY SOCIETY of BOSTON.
