Artist Statement
GeeVee Meyer is an artist currently based in New Bern, North Carolina. She grew up in the Philippines and moved to the United States in her early 20s. Though self-taught for many years, she has also attended workshops led by internationally renowned artists in France, Belgium, Italy, Japan, and throughout the United States.
She moved to New Bern with her family in 2010 and promptly jumped into various community services to help with New Bern's Tricentennial events as well as the art community. She is a member of Coastal Carolina Classrooms, TRAA, Coastal Carolina Plein Air Painters, Women Painters of the Southeast, and was a member of the Arts Council.
GeeVee’s philosophy on art is heavily influenced by her travels, the people and the artists she meets. She admires those who have spent their lifetimes constantly improving their artistic technique and engages them for collaboration and critique. The camaraderie edges her forward into new subjects and series.
Her work is influenced by master artists of the old world – Sargent, Sorolla, Degas, Hensche, and Michelangelo, Klimt, Rubens, among others. Her choice mediums are oils and mixed-media, while charcoal and pastels are also staples in her studies.
Her work ranges from whimsical dreamy figures to realist everyday scenes to recreations of Renaissance masterpieces with a twist. She continues to explore subjects, styles, and mediums through these different series. Her artwork has been displayed in shows in Michigan, Illinois as well as in Japan. Her studio is located upstairs at the the Studios at Baxter’s in New Bern, North Carolina.
GeeVee strives to make this world a better place through the creation of art and growing the artist community.
